International coalition is needed to introduce economic sanctions against Rosatom - nuclear energy expert Kosharna
Olga Kosharna, an expert on nuclear energy and nuclear safety, noted that by seizing the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Russia is sawing the branch it is sitting on, because it has many active projects for the construction of nuclear power plants in other countries
She shared the statement on the air of Espreso.
"Russia's actions regarding the ZNPP are a wake-up call for many countries. For the first time in the history of world energy, a working nuclear plant has been seized. At the same time, Russia is sawing the tree it is sitting on, because it has many construction projects based on its reactor technologies in other countries, starting with Hungary. Orban is given a loan of 10 billion dollars for two power units based on Russian projects. Also, the Russian Federation has similar constructions in Turkey, China, India, Myanmar and other countries. Accordingly, it is necessary to organize an international coalition to introduce sanctions against Rosatom and all its affiliates who build nuclear plants abroad, as well as those who supply fuel abroad for nuclear reactors built according to Russian designs. I believe that only economic sanctions can somehow bring Russia to its senses, because the IAEA has no levers of influence," noted the nuclear energy expert.
Olga Kosharna explained that will not be as much money as for gas and oil, but for Russia, the issue of nuclear energy is a matter of reputation, because it is high technology, which is almost gone in the Russian Federation.
