EU imposes new sanctions against Russia
On Friday, July 28, the EU imposed new sanctions against 7 Russian individuals and 5 entities for spreading propaganda and disinformation
This is stated on the EU Council's website.
"Today the Council decided to impose restrictive measures against seven Russian individuals and five entities responsible for conducting a digital information manipulation campaign called 'RRN' (Recent Reliable News), aimed at distorting information and disseminating propaganda in support of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine," the statement says.
It is noted that the RRN campaign, in which state agencies participated, is based on fake web pages that use the identity of national media and government websites, as well as fake social media accounts. This coordinated and targeted information manipulation, according to the EU Council, is part of Russia's broader hybrid campaign against the EU and its member states.
In particular, the Council imposed restrictive measures on Inforos and its three founders. Inforos is an online publication with close ties to Russian military intelligence.
The sanctions also targeted Dialogue, a Russian non-profit organization created by the Moscow Department of Information and Technology and closely linked to the presidential administration. As well as the Institute of the Russian Diaspora, the Agency for Social Design, Structura National Technologies, and two Russian IT companies.
