Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov compared Kherson and Stalingrad when asked to explain why the Russian army is shelling infrastructure of the city it considers "its" territory. The diplomat justified the shelling by saying that "Stalingrad was also bombed."
“Well, we also had the city of Stalingrad as our territory. And we fought with the Germans there, and we fought so hard that they fled from there,” Lavrov said.
He also stated that Russia launches strikes on the energy infrastructure in order to prevent “pumping Ukraine with deadly weapons to kill Russians.”
