Russian forces attempting to set up alternative government structures in areas under their control – Kherson regional official
Yuriy Sobolevsky, Kherson Regional Council First Deputy Head, said that Russian forces in Skadovsk are creating parallel regional authorities.
He said this on air on Espreso TV.
"Now they are trying to create authorities at the district level. They have started to appoint their own “watchmen”, which is the only way I can describe them, in certain districts. Yesterday this happened in Skadovsk. They are trying to create district state administrations, some alternative power structures", Sobolevsky said.
The regional official added that Russian forces are sending out contradictory messages.
"They say that Kherson region is part of Ukraine, but under Russian Federation control, then they talk about Taurida province, unification with Crimea. Now they are trying to destroy the financial system in the Kherson region, they are working to create a "ruble zone". I'm sure that it won’t work", Sobolevsky said.
He stressed that the Russians feel very uncomfortable in Kherson and the Kherson region, so they continue to spin their terror.
"There are constant searches, constant arrests. The humanitarian situation remains very difficult, there are no medicines, there are problems with food supply. The occupying authorities do not provide any humanitarian corridors, and they have neither the ability nor the desire to solve these problems. They create a particular picture for their own audience, Russian film crews are working constantly. They are shooting stories about how it was very, very bad in the Kherson region, and now everything is very "cool". But the mood in Kherson is warlike, we are all waiting for the Armed Forces", Sobolevsky said.
