Russian forces open reverse traffic on damaged bridge in Kherson region
Serhiy Khlan, a deputy of the Kherson Regional Council, said that the Chongar bridge is still closed, and small Russian armoured personnel carriers are already moving along the bridge towards Henichesk
He shared the statement on Espreso TV.
"Yesterday, on August 6, Ukrainian artillery struck two road bridges. First, a bridge near Henichesk was hit, which was observed by many local residents. The occupying Russian forces tried to hide this information but failed. Subsequently, the invading Russian army was forced to publish information on the Chongar bridge, which was more damaged," said the Kherson Regional Council deputy.
Serhiy Khlan added that this is the second damage to the Chongar road bridge. After the first damage, the Russian occupiers arranged a pontoon crossing there and used the bridge from Henichesk across the Arabat Spit as an alternative way to supply weapons and manpower from the occupied Crimea.
"Traffic on the Chongar bridge is now blocked, no one is allowed to cross. And last night, the occupiers launched reverse traffic on the bridge across the Tonka Strait in the city of Henichesk, on one side of the bridge. Of course, a big traffic jam was created there. Now the reverse traffic is working and it is possible to move around, although Russian troops cannot move military equipment. However, local residents report that small armoured personnel carriers are moving from Arabatska Split towards Henichesk. However, the bridge is mostly used for civilian traffic," said Hlan.
Strikes on the Chongar bridge
On the night of June 22, Russia reported an explosion on the Chonhar Bridge near the temporarily occupied Crimea.
On the morning of July 29, the Ukrainian Defense Forces launched another successful strike on the Chonhar Bridge. The information about the Ukrainian Armed Forces' successful strike was confirmed by the Center for Strategic Communications in the evening of the same day.
On August 6, Ukrainian Defense Forces missiles hit the Chonhar Bridge and the bridge across the Tonka Strait connecting the city of Henichesk with the Arabat Spit.
