Ukrainian Armed Forces adopt 46 new types of weapons since start of year — Defense Ministry
In the first months of 2024, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have incorporated 46 new types of domestically developed weapons
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense's press service shared the information.
This significant increase in the arsenal surpasses the numbers from the same period in the previous year, emphasizing the ongoing efforts in modernizing Ukraine's weaponry.
The Ministry highlighted ongoing work in the production of various weapon models, including the Bohdana self-propelled artillery systems, electronic warfare systems, drones, and small arms.
Deputy Defense Minister Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk stated, "We are making every effort to enhance Ukraine's self-sufficiency in providing the Ukrainian Defense Forces with necessary weapons. The support of our partners, along with financial and technological investments, is crucial in accelerating the development of the national defense industry. Establishing joint arms production facilities and signing long-term contracts in international consortia format are important goals for us."
The codification process, which involves approving domestic weapons and military equipment for operation with NATO nomenclature numbers, enables the purchase of these items from manufacturers for the Ukrainian Defense Forces using state budget funds.
The Ukrainian army has already integrated numerous domestically produced drones, including both unmanned aerial and surface drones.
Minister of Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshyn also revealed the initiation of mass production of a domestic counterpart to Shahed UAVs. He also reported a sixfold growth in the Ukrainian defense industry over the past year.
Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced that Ukraine has reached parity with Russia in the number of long-range “kamikaze” drones. He added that upcoming technologies will enable military control of drones from locations far removed from the front lines.
