The work is carried out under the supervision of armed men, materials and equipment for the barracks are the most modern. At the entrance to the construction site, all those working at the facility have their phones confiscated. Various organizations are involved in the urgent capital construction.
At the entrance to the military base, the road has been completely rebuilt, centuries-old trees have been cut down for its expansion.
Belaruski Gayun recalls that the Russian forces have already actively used the airfield in Luninets in February-April 2022.
"Aviation took off from there and missiles were launched. At the peak of the activity of using the airfield, there were several dozen Su-25 and Su-24 aircrafts, as well as S-300/400 air defense systems. In early April, the Russian planes left the airfield," the statement reads.
It is known that satellite images showed large-scale construction works on the territory of the airfield on August 7. Then the territory was being cleared for the construction of new facilities.
- On January 8, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense announced joint tactical flight exercises with Russia from January 16 to February 1. The exercises will involve all airfields and training grounds of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense Forces.
