This is reported by the monitoring group Belaruski Gayun.

It is noted that an emergency modernization of barracks is being completed at the military airfield in Luninets. They will be intended for the Russian military and should be ready for military exercises that will start on January 16.

The work is carried out under the supervision of armed men, materials and equipment for the barracks are the most modern. At the entrance to the construction site, all those working at the facility have their phones confiscated. Various organizations are involved in the urgent capital construction.

At the entrance to the military base, the road has been completely rebuilt, centuries-old trees have been cut down for its expansion.

Belaruski Gayun recalls that the Russian forces have already actively used the airfield in Luninets in February-April 2022.

"Aviation took off from there and missiles were launched. At the peak of the activity of using the airfield, there were several dozen Su-25 and Su-24 aircrafts, as well as S-300/400 air defense systems. In early April, the Russian planes left the airfield," the statement reads.

It is known that satellite images showed large-scale construction works on the territory of the airfield on August 7. Then the territory was being cleared for the construction of new facilities.

  • On January 8, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense announced joint tactical flight exercises with Russia from January 16 to February 1. The exercises will involve all airfields and training grounds of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense Forces.
  • On January 13, Major General of the Security Service of Ukraine Viktor Yahun said that the Russians could make an airfield in Belarus to be able to land strategic bombers. "There is information about the modernization of the airfield for strategic aviation," he said.
