Poroshenko expresses his condolences to family of Hennadiy Afanasyev, who has been killed in Luhansk region
Petro Poroshenko has expressed his condolences to the relatives of former Kremlin political prisoner Hennadiy Afanasyev, who was killed in eastern Ukraine
Poroshenko wrote about this on Facebook.
“It's hard to lose. It's especially hard to lose your people. Those for whom you fought and with whom you fought for Ukraine. Hena, Hennadiy Afanasyev, was killed. I look back at the photos together, and it seems that only a moment has passed since I could shake his hand, just released from Russian prisons. This feeling cannot be expressed in words,” Petro Poroshenko wrote.
“Hennadiy had a difficult fate - he survived imprisonment, capture, torture. And he did not break down, above all he believed that his native Crimea would become Ukrainian again. He fought for it on international platforms. And when the mad leader of the Russians launched a full-scale invasion, he took up arms and volunteered for the Territorial Defense Forces. He heroically defended the Kyiv airport. Later, as part of the 130th Territorial Defense Battalion of the 241st Brigade, he participated in battles in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions,” the fifth president wrote.
“He was killed in the battle near Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region. Hena is survived by a young daughter and a wife. It is difficult to find the right words. My condolences to the family,” Petro Poroshenko wrote.
