Pilot Karaya, who shot down 5 "Shahed" drones over Vinnytsia and ejected, becomes Hero of Ukraine
Fighter aircraft pilot Vadym Voroshylov was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and the Golden Star Order.
A published presidential decree proves it.
"For personal courage and heroism, shown in the defense of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, selfless service to Ukrainian people, I decree:
To confer the title of Hero of Ukraine with awarding of Golden Star Order to Major Vadym Oleksandrovych Voroshylov," the document states.
On October 12, pilot with call sign "Karaya" destroyed 5 Iranian drones and due to damage to aircraft, ejected in Vinnytsia region, having previously driven fighter jet away from settlement.
"On the fourth day after ejection, we visited the scene, apologized for inconvenience caused to residents of the community, thanked for nerves of steel, comprehensive assistance provided during evacuation and faith in Ukrainian Armed Forces!" pilot later wrote on Instagram.
After that, commander of the Air Forces of Ukrainian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleschuk, initiated a petition to award the pilot the high rank of Hero of Ukraine.
