"Our unit knocked the invading Russian forces out of their positions, and a few days later the village was liberated" - fighter with 128th Brigade
Ihor serves as an assistant machine gunner with the 128th Detached Zakarpattian Mountain Assault Brigade. He is 50 years old, and before the war he worked for an insurance company in the Rivne region
This is stated on the Zakarpattian Legion's Facebook page, Espreso.West reports.
The man once had a serious leg injury, he does not have a kneecap, but on February 26 he went to the military commissariat.
"I couldn't sit at home, how could I look my relatives in the eyes? I was sent to the communications unit and only after several instances was transferred to the combat unit. That's how I got into the 128th Brigade. I serve as an assistant machine gunner," the soldier said.
Their column on BMP advanced in the direction of enemy positions in landings on the outskirts of the village, they hurried the last half kilometer and went forward under the cover of armor.
"The artillery immediately opened fire on us, fortunately, it was not aimed, and the shells fell a few hundred meters behind. The Russians abandoned the first landing, but we did not go there, because we knew from the reconnaissance that everything was mined. We immediately moved to the second one, about a kilometer away, and occupied it. The enemy positions were perpendicular to us, and the small arms fire started from there. The artillery opened fire almost simultaneously, and one of the Smerch systems with cluster ammunition exploded in the air immediately after landing. We were very lucky then that no one was hit," Ihor noted.
And then the battle began. The military man remembers how he and a machine gunner fired from the knee, were in a small trench, fired four boxes of tape at the enemy, and then an explosion rang out, and the Russian occupiers fired at them with a mortar.
"I was very deafened by the sound, and a shrapnel hit the machine gunner in the hand. I was half a meter behind, and if it weren't for his hand, the shrapnel would have flown into my head. I only managed to tie up my comrade's hand like a new explosion, and I fainted. Later we were evacuated. The machine gunner is now in another hospital, and I'm recovering from a concussion here," the defender added.
He also said that after that the soldiers knocked the Russian enemy out of their positions and even took a prisoner of war. And a few days later, the village, on the outskirts of which the battle was fought, was also liberated.
