Kherson's occupying 'authorities' start to take apartments from residents who left city
In occupied Kherson, Russians make lists of apartments of residents who were evacuated from the city to give them to 'temporarily displaced people from areas of active hostilities'.
Ukrainian Ombudswoman Lyudmyla Denisova shared this information in her Telegram channel.
"Russians started to take away apartments of Kherson residents. The corresponding 'order' from the 'military commandant' of the Kherson region was published in social media," she wrote.
Housing organizations of occupied Kherson have to form a list of apartments "owners of which have left Kherson, to give empty housing to temporarily displaced people who came from areas of active hostilities."
Larceny and threats of housing withdrawal in the Russian-occupied territories is a violation of the 1949 Geneva Conventions on the protection of civilians in time of war. Denisova appealed to the UN Commission to investigate human rights violations during the Russian military invasion of Ukraine and to take into account these violations of human rights.
