How many large landing ships Russia still has in Black Sea?

Ukraine's Armed Forces have already destroyed three large Russian landing ships in the Black and Azov Seas, and the attack on Novocherkassk in occupied Feodosia has reduced the number of Russian ships of this class in the Black Sea to ten

Defence Express writes about it.

Apart from the Novocherkassk, on September 13 this year, the Minsk (Project 775, assigned to the Baltic Fleet) was destroyed in a dry dock in Sevastopol along with the Rostov-on-Don submarine, and on March 24, 2022, the Saratov (Project 1171) was destroyed in Berdiansk.

These three large landing ships are the Russian greatest irreversible losses, as the Olenegorsky Gornyak, which was hit by a naval drone in Novorossiysk, despite being damaged on August 4, remained afloat and was dry-docked.

Russia has in service:

two large landing ships of the 1171 Tapir project:

  • Orsk
  • Nikolai Filchenkov

seven ships of project 775:

  • Caesar Kunikov (damaged in Berdiansk)
  • Yamal
  • Azov
  • Kaliningrad (Baltic Fleet)
  • Georgii Pobedonosets (Northern Fleet)
  • Korolyov (Baltic Fleet)
  • Olenegorsky Gornyak (Northern Fleet, damaged in Novorossiysk)

one project 11711 of the Ivan Gren type:

  • Pyotr Morgunov (Northern Fleet).

That means that in total, there are 10 large amphibious assault ships in the Black Sea.

The available satellite images show that there were a total of four Project 775 Littoral Combat Ships in occupied Sevastopol on December 20, two of which were awaiting repair.

Another one was in dry dock, and this does not include the Minsk, which continues to remain in another dry dock at the shipyard.

And only one of Project 775 is likely to be in good condition, the Defense Express assumes.

As of December 17, several other large amphibious assault ships were spotted in Novorossiysk: 3 Project 775s and one Petr Morgunov. At the same time, the dry dock has already been used by another ship, meaning that the Olenegorsky Gornyak has been withdrawn from it.
