China is interested in prolonging war in Ukraine, but with reduced intensity
Political scientist Vitaly Kulyk believes that Xi Jinping's visit to Moscow does not offer Putin any alliance or commitments
He expressed this opinion on Espreso.
The political scientist commented on possible agreements that can be reached between China and Russia during Xi Jinping's visit to Moscow.
"Russia should follow China's example in pursuing its interests. Xi Jinping doesn't offer Putin any alliance or commitments, but China has a powerful economy, strong armed forces, and global influence," noted Vitaly Kulyk.
Kulyk added that Russia is weakening due to sanctions and war, becoming a rogue country, so China acts as a patron and Putin as a client.
"I don't believe that the discussion will involve an immediate cessation of the war on any terms. In my opinion, China is unfortunately interested in prolonging the conflict, but with reduced intensity. This would entail a decrease in the intensity of the fighting and identifying some negotiating points where the process could begin. For instance, China could facilitate talks in Beijing," he said.
