Center for Countering Disinformation has published a compilation of fake news Russia produced on January 20
Russia continues producing fakes, manipulations and false narratives to influence public opinion as to Kremlin’s war against Ukraine
According to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, on January 20, Russia launched 3 major deceptions.
Manipulation: Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that "[The conflict] is developing in an upward spiral. We see NATO's growing indirect and sometimes direct involvement. We hear statements that indicate a dominance of political will to continue to increase this involvement. We see a tendency for dramatic misconceptions about Ukraine's ability to succeed on the battlefield."
Disinformation: Russian State Duma deputy D. Belik noted that "the 'return' of Crimea is an ideological trump card that the US periodically pulls out to see how far it can go and where Russia sees the line having crossed which it will react."
Manipulation: Sergey Surovikin, commander of the United Group of Forces in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, appealed to British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace saying Britain should transfer several Challenger tanks to Russia directly. "We will still get at least 2 tanks, but what's the point of transporting them first to Poland and then to Ukraine? The result is the same, but the logistics are different."
