God helps those who take action to help themselves
The political culture of leading Western countries is that those who work hard and only need support to succeed deserve help, not those who simply ask for it
Western countries began providing substantial aid to Ukraine in 2014 because we resisted the Russian attack. They continued to support us in 2022 when the Ukrainian army and people destroyed the Kremlin’s plan to capture Kyiv in three days.
Now, extraordinary efforts are needed - not from the army and the people, who are already doing their part, but from the government.
What are the authorities responsible for? They are responsible for organizing resources. We can only succeed if we achieve "more with less" - a common saying in cultures that value the importance of individual effort.
These ideas have straightforward ways of being put into practice.
Currently, there are struggles to fill gaps in the government, where specialists are unwilling to work and non-specialists are predictably failing. A government of national unity and salvation would be a significant effort. It would be a powerful motivator for mobilizing Ukraine's resources and for securing assistance from our partners.
Now, there are complaints that partner assistance is not meeting all their needs. “Extra efforts” should be made in two areas:
- As suggested by the European Parliament in its February resolution: Do not block the international efforts of the opposition and experts. Synergy is always more effective than the work of individuals alone.
- Maximize the production of Ukrainian weapons systems: This includes drones, missiles, electronic warfare tools, and counter-intelligence equipment - everything needed to combat Russia effectively without having to ask for permission.
To achieve this, we need to free businesses from the arbitrary control of authorities, extortion, and bureaucracy.
The mobilization process is still not functioning properly, particularly in terms of communication and training. The necessary “extra efforts” are clear: stop treating the issue of mobilization as a hot potato and take decisive action. There are plenty of proposals available.
Instead of organizing these extraordinary efforts, the government continues to work haphazardly. This approach reinforces the suspicion that the government wants to “end the war” quickly and focus on consolidating its power. However, this approach does not lead to the end of the war that would leave them any place in the country.
