Wallace accused of concealing details of incident with RAF spy plane and Russian fighter
British Defence Minister Ben Wallace was accused of concealing important details of the incident involving the Royal Air Force reconnaissance plane and Russian fighter jet
The senior Conservative MP Tobias Ellwood has accused the Defence Secretary, Ben Wallace, of concealing a potential Russian “act of war” against an RAF spy plane, the Guardian reports.
During an emergency debate in the Commons, Ellwood questioned the information provided by Wallace to the parliament, regarding the dangerous incident that took place last September and was revealed last week in the leak of hundreds of top-secret Pentagon documents, which states that (the incident - ed.) "nearly brought down" the British plane.
He asked whether too much "information is now classified as top secret", meaning the public is sometimes unaware of the threats facing the UK. The parliamentarian went on to ask "whether a Russian Su-27 aircraft had actually deliberately attempted to fire a missile at a Royal Air Force Rivet Joint aircraft over the Black Sea last September," as stated in classified documents.
