US, G7 to impose new major sanctions package against Russia by February 24 - Nuland
By February 24, the US and the G7 plan to impose sanctions against technologies Russia uses in its defense industry and third countries that help the country
US under secretary of state for political affairs Victoria Nuland shared the information, Radio Liberty reports.
The sanctions will also apply to individuals who support the war and assist in its conduct.
"These sanctions will expand and deepen the previously introduced restrictions in certain categories, related, in particular, to limiting the flow of technology and equipment for the Russian defense industry, etc.," she said.
According to her, the new restrictions will also affect third countries that assist Russia in circumventing sanctions. The next package will be "particularly focused" on Iran, North Korea, China, and a number of other countries.
"We are seeing the Russians get quite clever — everything from importing laptops and refrigerators through third countries, including sometimes our own countries, which they then strip-mine for chips and other things that go into their war machine. We will target these evaders both in our countries and in third countries," Nuland emphasized.
Sanctions will also affect the banking sector.
