Ukrainian troops attack Russian airbase in Crimea
Ukraine's Armed Forces have struck a Russian airbase near the village of Hvardiiske, in the central part of the occupied Crimea
Defense Express reports this, analyzing a video from the scene.
This is most certainly a cruise missile travelling at a low height. Furthermore, a second blast was heard shortly after the missile exploded. Of course, making correct judgments based on this is exceedingly difficult, but Storm Shadow meets all of the criteria thus far. What's interesting is that the footage doesn't show any Russian air defense systems in action.
Of course, the target for this tool was picked to be as fascinating as possible, because it is the area of Hvardiiske, where the air base is located, and where the Russian Federation's 37th Mixed Aviation Regiment is stationed with Su-24 and Su-25 aircraft. Simultaneously, Russia can now maintain significantly greater forces at this airbase. At the same time, this airfield is targeted on a regular basis, with the first hit occurring in August of last year.
"But most likely, this particular strike can be the most effective, precisely because of the use of sophisticated means. And the silence of Russian officials, as of the time of publication, who did not even report something like intercepted by electronic warfare, may indicate extremely interesting consequences of the strikes," the company writes.
At the same time, the airbase itself could have been targeted. Ammunition storage sites, as well as the nearby Ostriakove railway station, oil depot, and other potential targets, might have been established near the airfield. However, we are most likely still discussing stuff at the airport.
