Ukrainian intelligence assesses threat of offensive from Belarus
Ukrainian intelligence believes that the information that Belarus is allegedly preparing an offensive is being spread on purpose. But if the country does try to enter Ukrainian territory, it will be equivalent to a "suicide".
Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, said this in an interview to a TV channel, reports UNIAN.
According to him, such fake news is profitable for Russia. This is Russia’s intimidation technique.
"Information and psychological special operations very often pursue several goals at the same time. And in this case, we see different goals. On the one hand, to spread panic among Ukrainians, including those living in border areas and regions. On the other hand, to confuse, disperse, and divert Ukrainian defense forces from other directions. Well, the object and goals of this special psychological information operation are Belarus itself and Belarusians, i.e., incitement. To make it so that it sparks, and involves Belarus itself in a full-scale war after all, which has not happened yet," the intelligence representative emphasizes.
Yusov believes that it is now very important to understand what the enemy's goals are. Population should not succumb to this kind of provocation: "We are not saying that there is no threat from the Lukashenko regime. There is, and Lukashenko helps Putin with weapons, ammunition, and armored vehicles. He provides his airspace for strikes on Ukraine, but we cannot state that a full-scale invasion will take place in the near future and Belarus will already be involved in a ground operation yet."
Currently, the number of the Russian contingent is increasing on the territory of Belarus. However, the Belarusian army itself, a strike group that could carry out such an operation, has not been formed, he says.
"And if the Belarusian army attempts to do it, then it is pure suicide both for the Belarusian army and for the Lukashenko regime," Yusov adds.
