Ukrainian army unveils upgraded 2s22 Bohdana self-propelled howitzer
The Armed Forces of Ukraine showcased the new version of the Ukrainian self-propelled artillery system, 2S22 Bohdana, which proved superior to older model, as described by the mechanic-driver who participated in the liberation of Zmiinyi Island

The upgraded Bohdana, equipped with Tatra 8x8 chassis, offers numerous advantages over the experimental KrAZ chassis version. The driver, known by the call sign Papa, says that the updated vehicle is generally much better than the first samples of the self-propelled artillery system.
"It's more comfortable, the computer works better, the cross-country ability is better, climate control, autonomous. It's very convenient," says Papa. He also emphasizes that the cab is very stable during a shot. "It doesn't throw, it doesn't sway, it stands, it doesn't move at all."
The only temporary drawback mentioned is the absence of a loading machine, impacting the rate of fire. Currently, Bohdana fires up to three shots per minute, but with a loading device, this could double to six shots per minute.
Regarding range, the Bohdana self-propelled gun can hit targets up to 14-15 km with M107 shells, and up to 41-42 km with long-range ammunition.
Papa shares his firsthand experience operating Bohdana during the challenging operation to liberate Zmiinyi Island, where they collaborated with the French Caesar. Despite adverse weather conditions and the need to shoot at maximum distances, they successfully fired a total of 48 rounds of ammunition at Zmiinyi, with approximately seven rounds in the morning and the rest later.
