Ukrainian Armed Forces capable of mastering F-16 fighters in a few months - British expert
Greg Bagwell, President of the British Air and Space Forces Association, believes Ukrainians will be able to master F-16 fighters in a few months
He shared his opinions on the United News national telethon on February 13.
According to him, the Ukrainian military are very motivated and learn quickly.
"This system (of control - ed.) differs in many ways from the Soviet equipment they used before, but I have worked with Ukrainians and know that they learn tactics and understand the system very quickly," Bagwell said.
The President of the British Association noted that the F-16s are automated and very powerful. He predicted that an experienced military pilot could start using such an aircraft in 6 to 8 weeks. At the same time, Bagwell noted that aircraft maintenance takes more time, but it is possible to help with maintenance remotely.
"I am convinced that we can manage in a few months. Someone will say that it will take 6 months to a year or more and use this as an excuse, saying that we don't have enough time. But a whole year has passed. We could have done it twice already," the expert said.
He also emphasized that the supply of fighter jets to Ukraine will not lead to escalation. Bagwell believes that Ukraine's need for 200 fighter jets is justified and is convinced that such a number of aircraft will be found.

The UK said that it was impractical to provide Ukraine with fighter jets at this time. They explained that the fastest training program for an F-16 pilot is about 35 months.

On January 26, Politico reported that Ukraine's international partners have begun debating the supply of modern fighter jets to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
