Ukraine’s task is to create gap in Russian defense – British Colonel Grant
The most important thing for the Ukrainian Defense Forces is to create a gap in the Russian defense to break through it
British Colonel Glen Grant shared his opinion on Espreso TV.
He noted that the Russian Federation always has the human and military potential for war, and the only thing that can break the south is the full deployment of the front line.
"And by that I mean Ukraine breaks through somewhere and gets behind people. The moment they get behind the Russians, they will run. And the key is to get through, to get a gap and to exploit that gap and effectively surround the Russians from behind. But even then it could be a long hard battle all the way to Berdiansk. It may not actually just come apart that easily. So I don't think you should put timetables on this at all," he said.
The colonel noted that it is necessary to provide the army with more drones, vehicles, and ambulances, as the war could last for another two to three years. He added that one should not underestimate Russia's ability to throw all resources at the war.
"We have to be prepared for a long battle and have to be prepared for this breakthrough taking real time. Just steady movement, kilometer by kilometer, which is what's happening at the moment. But that's why you have to follow principles of war, one of which is concentration of force. Concentration of force is vital in this case if you want to break through," he summarized.
- On July 29, he also said that Ukraine's strategic breakthrough would be where Russia would not be able to fight normally, and the next month would show where exactly it happened.
