Drone attack on Moscow: US disapproves, UK supports Ukraine's right to defend itself
Britain believes that Ukraine has the right to use force outside its borders, i.e. to strike at Russian territory to weaken Russia's ability to strike, while the US supports the focus on retaking territories
This was stated by British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, Sky News reports.
According to him, Kyiv has a legitimate right to defend itself.
"It has the legitimate right to do so within its own borders of course, but it does also have the right to project force beyond its borders to undermine Russia's ability to project force into Ukraine itself," the minister said.
Cleverly noted that legitimate military targets abroad are part of Ukraine's self-defence.
"We should recognise that," he said.
A White House spokesman said that the United States is still collecting data on Tuesday morning's drone strikes in Moscow and does not approve of attacks on Russian territory, Reuters reports.
"(The United States - ed.) is focused on providing Ukraine with the equipment and training they need to retake their own sovereign territory," the White House spokesperson said, adding that Russia attacked Ukraine's capital 17 times in May.
