Ukraine allocates UAH 1 billion for water supply in Kakhovka HPP-affected regions
Ukraine’s government has allocated almost UAH 1 billion for water supply in 4 regions affected by Russian troops destroying the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ruslan Strilets, made the announcement, Ukrinform reports.
"After the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, there were some difficulties with water supply. First of all, funds were allocated, in particular, UAH 370 million was allocated by the government from the reserve fund exclusively for water supply in the Kherson region. In total, almost UAH 1 billion was allocated for such measures in 4 regions," emphasized Strilets.
According to him, he holds weekly coordination meetings with representatives of the regions. The minister noted that the Dnipropetrovsk region has now fully completed the construction or equipping of the planned boreholes. As for the Zaporizhzhia region, additional wells are not presently required, but they have already assessed potential locations for such wells following the liberation of parts of the region.
He added that the situation in the Kherson region is more complicated than in other regions, as the work is hampered by constant shelling by the Russian army.
On June 6, Russian invading forces blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, completely destroying it. As a result of the tragedy, settlements in the Kherson region and the regional center itself, as well as villages and towns in the Mykolaiv region, were flooded.
