UK sanctions target individuals, companies supporting Russia's war on Ukraine
The UK government has imposed new sanctions on 22 individuals and businesses outside Russia that support invasion of Ukraine, and on 3 companies that supply electronics to Russian military
This is stated in the UK government’s press release.
"Today’s landmark sanctions will further diminish Russia’s arsenal and close the net on supply chains propping up Putin’s now struggling defence industry. There is nowhere for those sustaining Russia’s military machine to hide," the statement said.
It is noted that the United Kingdom, together with its G7 partners, called on third parties to immediately stop providing material support to Russia's aggression, as otherwise it would lead to serious losses.
Thus, two Turkish companies, Turkik Union and Azu International, were sanctioned. They helped export microelectronics to Russia, which is important for Russia's military activities in Ukraine. Also on the sanctions list was Aeromotus Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Trading LLC, a Dubai-based company that played a role in supplying drones and components to Russia.
In addition, the UK imposed sanctions against Slovakian citizen Ashot Mkrtychev, who was involved in an attempt to conclude arms deals between North Korea and Russia. The sanctions package also includes Swiss citizen Anselm Oskar Schmucki for his role in the Russian financial services sector, in particular, as the head of the Moscow office of DuLac Capital Ltd.
"The UK is also taking further steps to tackle countries actively supporting Putin by supplying weapons and military components directly to Russia, including Iran, Belarus and DPRK," the British government stated.
The statement adds that the sanctions also targeted individuals and entities from Iran involved in the research, development and production of drones for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Belarusian defence companies associated with the production of military equipment for the Belarusian regime were also included in the sanctions list.
According to the UK government, this directly contributed to the illegal invasion of Ukraine.
