UK Prime Minister wants to convince Biden to support Wallace as NATO Secretary General candidate — The Telegraph
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will try to convince US President Joe Biden to support the candidacy of Defense Minister Ben Wallace for the post of NATO Secretary General during his US visit
The Telegraph writes about it.
The British Prime Minister is scheduled to spend two days in Washington this week and will hold a meeting with President Biden at the White House. The discussions between the politicians will revolve around enhancing cooperation in various areas such as the economy, trade, science, and technology. It is anticipated that significant billion-dollar business investment agreements will be signed, particularly focusing on Great Britain. Additionally, Rishi Sunak and Joe Biden will address the need for regulations pertaining to artificial intelligence.
Ben Wallace has gained popularity in the United States for his pivotal role in establishing an international coalition in support of Ukraine. Furthermore, he has successfully increased Britain's defense spending to 2.25% of GDP and aims to achieve a target of 3% by the end of the decade.
It is likely that Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will emerge as Wallace's main contender for the position. However, there are concerns in London about Denmark's defense spending as a percentage of GDP, which is not considered an ideal example for other Allies to follow.

In May, Ben Wallace expressed his interest in leading NATO as the current Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, will conclude his mandate in September of this year. Stoltenberg has already announced his intention to step away from leading the bloc.
