Sooner or later, official China and Ukraine will meet – political scientist Yunus
China is explaining to Russia the rules by which it should exist, and sooner or later it will have negotiations with Ukraine
International political scientist Ramis Yunus shared his understanding of China's policy with Espreso TV.
"China's position during this year of war reminds me of the actions of a boa constrictor. Look at the dynamics of how China has behaved officially and publicly during this war. All three votes in the UN were equally neutral, distancing itself from all parties in this conflict. At the same time, Beijing was interested in weakening both Russia and the collective West, because in the end it allowed China to come to the forefront, a fresh new player, and everyone is now interested in this player being closer to the position of one side or the other. This is clearly noticeable," he said.
According to the expert, that is why China did not express a position all year, and the topic of China appeared in the information space at the end of 2022, after successful Ukrainian counter offensives in Kharkiv and Kherson regions, when President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Washington and US President Joe Biden visited Ukraine. Ramis Yunus noted that after that, China realized that the United States, together with its allies, was ready to go all the way and that this could lead to the complete defeat of Russia.
"China comes and gives a stick to the Kremlin, which is drowning in the swamp. But before that, it explains to them what rules they will have to follow in this life. On the other hand, I understand that Joe Biden met and talked with him in Indonesia beforehand. And summarizing all of this, China throws in this so-called 12-point peace plan. And so, in a year, by the way, it tightened the screws in its own country, held congresses and so on, and became politically stronger inside the country. After that, China entered the international arena to declare: here is my agenda, and I will push it," the expert added.
The political scientist noted that China explained the rules to Russia, and it grabbed onto the ones that suited Moscow – an immediate ceasefire and the start of negotiations, hoping that China would succeed.
"China will discuss the rest of the issues with the United States, and eventually, sooner or later, whether someone likes it or not, China will meet and talk with official Kyiv and President Zelenskyy," Ramis Yunus emphasized.
