Russian submarine equipped with 4 Kalibr missiles on combat duty in Black Sea
South Operational Command detects a Russian submarine equipped with 4 Kalibr missiles in the Black Sea on combat duty
Natalia Humeniuk, head of the joint coordination center of Ukraine’s South Defense Forces, shared the information on the United News national telethon.
"We understand that most likely Russian forces are really preparing for an attack and this may be a sign. Aviation is practicing training flights, they are changing their location. It is no longer calm at their airports due to frequent explosions. Therefore, they need to be coordinated in a relatively new location. We are currently observing and can confirm that there is one submarine equipped with 4 Kalibrs on combat duty in the Black Sea and 2 ships from the group, which are likely to reconnoiter the surface situation, cover it," said Humeniuk.
She stressed that it is likely that Russia launches UAVs from these ships for tactical reconnaissance. However, Ukrainian air defense successfully shoots them down in Mykolaiv and Odesa regions. "This indicates more information gathering activities, as a rule, this happens just before preparing for a strike."
Russian forces are using drones to scout for air defense systems, critical and social infrastructure in southern Ukraine.
Humeniuk says that strike drones, particularly Lantset type, are sometimes detected in the direction of positions.
"We know that Russian forces are ready to launch Shaheds, most likely combined with a missile attack, when there will be aircraft in the air. This will distract the attention of Ukrainian air defense," added Humeniuk.
- Earlier, Natalia Humeniuk said that Russia keeps only one missile carrier in the Black Sea.
- On January 11, Natalia Humeniuk said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are preparing to repel a new Russian attack. Russia may apply mixed tactics during the next attack.
