Russian authorities are paranoid about the colors blue and yellow - UK Defense Ministry

The UK Ministry of Defense wrote about this on Twitter. 

It has been reported that some Russian law enforcement agencies at the local level are likely to interpret the draconian Russian wartime legislation in such a way that public displays of blue and yellow symbols are prohibited, as they may indicate covert support for Ukraine.

UK intelligence cites the case of a nursing home worker who was arrested on May 9, 2023, after wearing a blue and yellow jacket to work.

“In recent days, Russian National Guard troops arrested a 22 year old man in Volkhov near St Petersburg for displaying which was eventually determined to be the blue and yellow flag of Russia’s own Aerospace Forces,” the report says. 

Also, according to UK intelligence, these repressions emphasize the uncertainty of the paranoid Russian officialdom about what is and is not acceptable in an increasingly totalitarian system.

“Criticism of the arrests has come from an unexpected quarter: the ultra-nationalist, pro-war Liberal Democratic party. The party’s own branding features yellow on a blue background,” the UK Defense Ministry tweeted. 

• On May 30, Defense Intelligence Chief Adrian Baird said that the UK considers Russia to be its main threat until 2030, and that China will be the country's challenge after that.

• On June 1, the UK stated at the OSCE that Russia's terrorist missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities would not compensate for the Russian army's defeats on the battlefield and would not force its partners to stop supporting Ukraine.
