Serhiy Zgurets, a military expert and CEO of Defense Express media and consulting company, noted that the production of Grom-E1 missiles in Russia does not exceed 10 per month, as they are not a priority model for use

He shared the information on Espreso TV.

“Yesterday, on October 20, there was information that Russians struck Kharkiv with a Grom-E1 missile. This is not the first such strike, Kharkiv was hit with these missiles for the first time in March last year. Then there was a strike this summer using a modified Grom-E1 missile that has additional glide and correction modules. Indeed, this development is based on the Russian Kh-38 air-to-air guided missile, which has a range of about 60 km. However, by retrofitting additional wings, warhead and engine from the Kh-38, and when dropped from an altitude of about 12 km, the Grom-E1 missile can cover a distance of up to 100-120 km,” the military expert noted.

According to him, the number of uses of Grom-E1 is quite limited. Russia’s production of such missiles does not exceed 10 per month, perhaps even less, because it is not a priority model and is not actively used.

"In Kharkiv, universal inter-type gliding munitions are used much more frequently. These munitions take a 250 kg bomb, add wings for gliding and correction, and include a rocket engine, which gives them a range of 90-100 km. The enemy uses its Su-34 bombers to drop these munitions, but they are reluctant to approach Kharkiv. As a result, they release these bombs from a distance of 40 km from the combat line, allowing another 50 km for the bomb to glide and strike Kharkiv. Additionally, until recently, missiles from the S-300 system were also used in Kharkiv, but such attacks have become less frequent, possibly due to efforts to target these Russian systems," summarized Serhiy Zgurets.

  • On the night of October 21, the Russian army launched attack UAVs, KAB bombs and ballistic missiles at Ukraine. There were 13 casualties in Kharkiv.
