Russian night attack on Ukraine: 13 injured in Kharkiv, 4 in Kryvyi Rih

On October 21, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine using UAVs, bombs, and missiles. Thirteen people were injured in Kharkiv, with more attacks targeting Kyiv and Kryvyi Rih

Attack on Kyiv

The Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that air defense forces were operating in the region.


At 00:24 a.m., the Kyiv City Military Administration and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported air defense activity on the left bank of the capital.

 

At 4 a.m., the Kyiv City Military Administration reported new air defense activity.


As of 5:35 a.m., according to the Kyiv City Military Administration, drone debris fell in Dniprovskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Solomianskyi districts of the city.

 

  • An electric cable was damaged in Dniprovskyi district. There was no information about the victims.

  • In Holosiivskyi district, in an apartment building, partial damage to the wall decoration was recorded and windows were broken. No destruction and no fires. No casualties were reported.

  • In Solomianskyi district, falling debris caused a fire on the roof of a one-story residential building. The fire was localized. No victims were reported.

"Russian UAVs were approaching the capital from various directions. However, all components of the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully neutralized the drones, about a dozen Russian UAVs, that posed a threat to the city," the military administration added.

 

Klitschko reported one victim in Solomianskyi district, who was treated by medics on the spot. The Kyiv City Military Administration also confirmed this information. 

Guided bombs strike on Kharkiv

At 10:10 p.m., Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported explosions in the city due to an attack with guided aerial bombs. 

 

He specified that three districts of the city were targeted. Some of them have some problems with electricity supply.

 

The head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, added that specialized emergency services had arrived at the sites of Russian attacks in Kharkiv. He later clarified that two people were injured in the Russian strike.

 

As of 10:30 p.m., the number of victims increased to 4. According to preliminary information from the mayor, one hit occurred near a residential building in the city's Osnovianskyi district.

 

“Another strike hit the Kyivskyi district of the city, near one of the supermarkets - a gas station was damaged, we are waiting for confirmation,” Terekhov added.

 

A service station, private houses and high-voltage power lines were also damaged in Kyivskyi district. 

 

At 11:00 p.m., the number of victims increased to 9, the mayor wrote.

 

The National Police said that the victims included four women aged 22 to 53 and five men aged 21 to 37.

 

“Due to Russian strikes, there is no electricity in parts of the city; apartment buildings, garages, gas stations, private households and cars have been damaged,” the police added.

 

At 3:00 a.m., the National Police reported 12 injuries. 

 

“According to preliminary data, the Russian military struck Kharkiv with KAB-250 guided bombs from an UMPK bomb kit,” the statement said.

 

At 8 a.m., the police reported that the number of injured had reached 13.

 

“Two minor fires broke out, which rescuers promptly extinguished,” they added.

Strike on Kryvyi Rih

At around 11:00 p.m., the Air Force reported a high-speed target flying through the Kherson region, headed for Kryvyi Rih. Suspilne reported explosions in the city.

 

The head of the city's Defense Council, Oleksandr Vilkul, confirmed the attack on Kryvyi Rih and the use of ballistic weapons. 

 

“A ballistic missile attack. We are all working. Do not film or post anything on the Internet. Stay in shelters or adhere tp the rule of two walls - there may be repeated launches,” Vilkul wrote.

 

The head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, said that the attack caused damage to civilian infrastructure.

 

Later, Lysak wrote that one person was injured in the attack. 

 

Vilkul also added that the missile attack damaged a civilian infrastructure facility in the city. The area of dense multi-storey buildings was damaged, and there was a lot of damage to houses and business facilities.

 

According to him, all rescue, medical and utility services are working at the scene.

 

At 1 a.m., Vilkul wrote, “There are currently three victims. Two were hospitalized. The injuries are of moderate severity, nothing threatens their lives.”

 

In the morning, the Regional Military Administration reported that the number of victims had increased to four.

 

“A 12-year-old girl was wounded. Fortunately, her condition is satisfactory. She will be treated at home. Among the victims are a 22-year-old man and women aged 36 and 63. All were provided with the necessary medical care,” Lysak wrote.

 

He noted that a hotel, 5 high-rise buildings, a cultural center, a bank, 2 shops and 14 cars were damaged.

Attack of Sumy region

The Regional Military Administration reported that the Russian troops struck at the critical infrastructure of the Romny district.

 

“As a result of the Russian attack, several settlements lost power supply. Emergency services are working. Power supply is being restored,” the statement said.

  • On October 20, the Russian army attacked Novoplatonivka, Kharkiv region, with a guided aerial bomb. Two people died as a result.
