Russia has never been long-distance winner – historian Alfyorov
Oleksandr Alfyorov, a military officer and historian, claims that all of Russia's victories are short-lived sprints, and it soon falters
He shared these insights on Espreso TV.
"We need to model a corridor to understand today's situation. What does victory mean? What is the integrity of Ukraine? What is Russia as an aggressor and the last dictatorship in Europe? We must convey these ideas through the perspectives of our military personnel, who know that Russia is not as powerful as it pretends. It is already struggling, unable to fight with its own weapons, and forced to acquire arms from other countries and pressure diplomats. Historically, Russia has never been a long-distance winner," Alfyorov emphasized.
According to him, Russia's victories are short bursts, and it quickly runs out of steam.
"This ties back to Russia's economy and logistics. A huge country means huge problems. In 2023, Russia was already struggling, making deals with Kim Jong-un. We see Russia's manipulations – sometimes ready for victory, then negotiations, then stalling for time. This shows that Russia isn't a long-distance runner. Their historical tactic is to invade, cause destruction, and create an illusion," the historian concluded.
