The Russian outlet Vedomosti reports this, citing its own diplomatic source.
Putin's visit to Vietnam is set for June, likely right after his trip to North Korea.
Russian ambassador to North Korea, Alexandr Matsegora, confirmed to the outlet that there is "active preparation" for Putin's visit to Pyongyang.
The article states that on March 26, the online outlet Vietnamnet reported that Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, invited Putin for an official visit during a phone call, which Putin accepted.
During his 24-year presidency, Putin has visited North Korea only once, in July 2000, when he met with the previous DPRK leader, Kim Jong Il.
- In September 2023, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Putin met at the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
- On his birthday, Putin gifted Kim Jong Un a limousine, violating UN sanctions against the DPRK.
