Ukraine records no increase in Russia’s military equipment or personnel near Belarusian border
No sharp increase in either Russian military equipment or personnel has been recorded near the Belarusian-Ukrainian border
Andriy Demchenko, spokesman of Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, went on Espreso TV to deny the information of the Belarusian Hajun monitoring group regarding the redeployment of Russian forces in Belarus closer to the border with Ukraine.
"The situation along the border with Belarus and in the border area remains under control. We do not record any movement or a sharp increase in military equipment or manpower near the border neither now nor during a sudden check of the combat readiness of the Belarusian Armed Forces," Demchenko said.
Earlier, the Belarusian Hajun shared a report on Telegram stating that Russia had begun to transfer to southern Belarus the equipment that had previously been brought to the training grounds along the mobilized Russian Armed Forces.
According to Hajun, on December 20 they recorded the redeployment of Russian tanks, trucks and personnel from the Belarusian training grounds in the northern and central parts of the country, where they were previously deployed, to the south, closer to the border with Ukraine.
- On December 12, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that the Kremlin was pushing Lukashenko's regime to war in Ukraine in order to strengthen its control over Belarus.
- On December 13, it was announced that the 103rd brigade of the Special Forces of Belarus is being redeployed to the Brest region. This region borders Ukrainian Volyn and Rivne regions.
- On December 15, the 38th Airborne Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Belarus, deployed to the border with Ukraine, returned to Brest.
- On December 20, the spokesman for Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, Andriy Demchenko, told Espreso TV that the situation along the border with Belarus and in the border area remains under control; no movement or sharp increase in military equipment or manpower has been recorded.
