Rheinmetall will supply Luna drone system to Ukraine by year end
German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall plans to deliver the Luna New Generation drone system to Ukraine by the end of this year
Reuters reported the information.
The outlet noted that the package of drones consists of a ground control station with several drones, a launch catapult and military trucks.
The drone system can be used as a reconnaissance system, provide LTE network and intercept or jam communications.
The company emphasizes that the LUNA NG unmanned aerial vehicle is the latest element of the LUNA system for aerial surveillance, detection and real-time tracking. It is significantly superior to its predecessor in all important operational characteristics.
Thanks to its ultra-lightweight but very stable fuselage structure made of CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic), it provides a flight time of over 12 hours. Its communication range of more than 100 km ensures extensive coverage spanning over 30,000 square kilometers.
In addition, the developer of the LUNA system called its high level of flexibility both during transportation and use a great advantage. The compact ground station fits into a small vehicle or a standard cab, which allows for quick transportation - for example, by helicopter. In flight, LUNA NG impresses with its low acoustic, thermal and radar characteristics.
