Ukraine strikes 25% of Russia's Black Sea Fleet over 1,000 days of war — UK intel
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukrainian forces have destroyed or damaged 25% of Russia's main warships in the Black Sea
The UK Ministry of Defense reported the information.
According to the ministry, prior to the large-scale invasion, the Russian leadership almost certainly perceived the Russian Navy and the Black Sea Fleet as integral components of its strategic maritime power.
“After 1000 days of war, Russia’s naval capabilities in the Black Sea have been significantly depleted through highly effective Ukrainian operations,” the statement said.
According to UK intelligence, Ukrainian forces have destroyed or damaged more than 25% of the primary Russian warships operating in the Black Sea. This includes the sinking of the Black Sea Fleet's flagship, the cruiser Moskva, which had been the fleet's most advanced air defense platform.
As a result, Russia's Black Sea Fleet was forced to move all of its major ships from its “historic base” in Sevastopol to Novorossiysk in the eastern Black Sea. Russian units operating in the region have also been forced to adapt their tactics and change the areas in which they operate.
“Despite Russia’s Black Sea Fleet currently being limited to the Eastern Black Sea, it retains the ability to conduct long range strikes into Ukraine in support of land operations,” the statement said.
- On the morning of Wednesday, November 20, six Russian ships were spotted in the Black Sea. All of them are carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles with a total volley of up to 23 missiles.
