Russian troops attempting to advance toward southern Pokrovsk - NGU reserve major
Reserve Major Oleksiy Hetman of the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU), a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, noted that Russia is attempting to identify the weakest point in the defense of Ukrainian forces
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Why has the Kurakhove direction been the hottest, rather than, for example, Pokrovsk or Toretsk? The Russians are trying to identify what they perceive as the weakest point in our defense. Let's recall where our attention has been focused over the past month. It has shifted from the Pokrovsk direction to the Toretsk direction and then to the Kurakhove direction, specifically this section of the front. The enemy has not been able to advance closer than 7-8 kilometers to Pokrovsk. This is a positive development, as being closer would mean they are within mortar range," he noted.
The reserve major of the National Guard noted that Russian troops are currently trying to put pressure from the Kurakhove direction to reach the south of Pokrovsk.
“That is why they tried to surround the city from the flanks. That is, from the north - from the Toretsk direction, from the south - from the Kurakhove direction. This is a completely understandable tactic from a military point of view, so they counterattacked in the north near New York in the Toretsk direction, and there they calmed down a bit, so to speak. Although there are street battles in Toretsk, the Russians are advancing a little bit, and from the Kurakhove direction they are trying to put pressure to reach Pokrovsk's southern area, heavy battles are also taking place there,” added Oleksiy Hetman.

On October 14, it was reported that there were no houses and shelters left in Toretsk for civilians and military, which allows the Russian troops to occupy new areas.
