Man assaults Ukrainian soldier in Frankfurt for rehabilitation, breaks his jaw - media reports, Ukrainian Consul
A man working in hotel security has reportedly beaten up a Ukrainian soldier who was being treated in Frankfurt, Germany after being wounded in battle
Novynarnia reports the story.
Vadym Kostiuk, Ukraine's Consul General in Frankfurt said that a security guard attacked a Ukrainian soldier on March 10, when he entered the hotel bar wearing Ukrainian Army uniform.
"On Friday, a Ukrainian soldier wearing his uniform entered a hotel bar. The hotel staff and security personnel objected to his attire, which they deemed inappropriate. A verbal altercation ensued, and a physical altercation followed when the security guard, who is reportedly a member of an ethnic group connected with the Caucasus, attempted to eject the Ukrainian soldier from the premises.”
As a result of the fight, the Ukrainian citizen suffered a fractured jaw and concussion. The police recorded this fact," Kostiuk said.
He added that the victim is awaiting surgery and promised to provide more details on March 13.
"On Monday morning, the consulate will provide translation support to our citizen as he prepares to undergo jaw surgery, which is scheduled for Tuesday. The next step will be to help with filing a statement with the police and finding a lawyer," Kostiuk said.
The consulate will also try to obtain video recordings from the bar where the incident took place from the police.
According to Kostiuk, wearing a military uniform off duty in Germany requires a special permit. Foreigners are allowed to wear uniform during joint training, internships, and in other cases stipulated by a separate bilateral agreement between the countries.
According to the Facebook group "Ukrainians in Frankfurt am Main", the incident took place at the Roomers hotel, and the attacker who beat up the Ukrainian was reportedly Chechen.
