Lukashenko can trade security guarantees for democratic elections if his regime is threatened
Oleksandr Lukashenko, self-proclaimed president of Belarus, would only cede power if his life or regime are threatened
Oleksandr Azarov, head of BYPOL Association of Security Forces and member of United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus, stated this live on air of Espreso TV channel.
"Lukashenko has repeatedly stated he will not leave power voluntarily. I do not believe that he will agree to new democratic elections and say that he has decided to leave," he said.
Azarov emphasized that Lukashenko committed crimes, he is accomplice in war and is subject to tribunal and criminal liability.
"There is possible option when there will be conditions in which he will understand that it is over. He will not stay in power and, perhaps, will not save his life. Then he can go to negotiations, so that he and his family will be allowed to leave somewhere with guarantees of safety and hold democratic elections. And he will go somewhere to Arab Emirates and hand over power voluntarily," he concluded.
