Germany's decision on tanks will lead to allies supplying Ukraine with offensive weapons - political strategist Jason Jay Smart
American international political consultant Jason Jay Smart told Espreso whether the delivery of Western battle tanks will be a game changer on the battlefield
The political adviser believes that the decision to supply Western tanks to Ukraine can significantly change the course of action at the front.
“It's significant in two ways. One is simply yes, it does give Ukraine more technology that helps it, but I think it's game-changing in the sense that this does cross the Rubicon for Germany, which historically has always been resistant to giving things that could be used offensively. They've crossed this threshold. We see that it's opened up a lot. We see Poland's consumer tanks, Canada is going to send tanks, the US can send tanks, and this is the result of Germany's decision. It has opened the floodgate of international support that would give offensive weapons to Ukraine, and that will be a game changer,” he said.
At the same time, Jason Jay Smart is convinced that the Kremlin's statements that it will resort to escalation if offensive weapons are supplied to Ukraine are simply threats, because “Russia really has no means to change what the West does.”
