German defense minister announces final number of Leopard tanks for Ukraine
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius says Ukraine will receive a total of 160 Leopard 2 and Leopard 1 tanks from NATO countries
Pistorius shared the information in an interview with Die Welt.
According to him, Poland and its allies will provide 2 battalions of Leopard 2 tanks, i.e. 60 tanks. And by the end of the year, Ukraine will receive another 100 Leopard 1 tanks, which will form 4 battalions. Thus, Ukraine will receive a total of 160 Leopards from NATO countries.
"I do not see a scenario in which it will be possible to send additional Leopards to Ukraine beyond what has been announced. Unfortunately, NATO countries do not have tanks just standing around waiting to be shipped. Nevertheless, I believe that in the medium term we will be able to cover Ukraine's needs," Pistorius said.
He added that apart from Leopards, Ukraine will receive British and American tanks.
