First 30 Abrams tanks are to provide logistics for Ukrainian Armed Forces - military expert Zgurets
Director of the Defense Express information and consulting company Serhiy Zgurets believes that the Abrams delivery is a general trend of the US commitment to its promises
He stated this on Espreso TV channel.
"The peculiarity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces offensive is that the defenders have to break through the enemy's mined defense. We remember the assaults of the 47th Brigade of the Ukrainian Forces, which were conducted with Leopard and Bradley. The tanks enter a minefield, stop, and become targets of enemy helicopters and anti-tank weapons. After that, conclusions were drawn and approaches to breaking the enemy's defense were changed. The focus was on small infantry units and the work of sappers," Zgurets recalled.
According to the expert, the role of tanks is significant, but their vulnerability remains due to the large number of anti-tank weapons.
"Abrams tanks should be seen as the first step to ensure a long-term supply. Abrams tanks are different compared to Leopard tanks. They require much more fuel, support, and are heavy. The first 30 Abrams tanks should provide logistics for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and then it will be possible to increase the number of tanks, which the Americans have enough of. The delivery of Abrams is a general trend of the US commitment to its promises," Zgurets emphasized.
