China will "deepen strategic mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation" with Russia
China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi defends the country's stance on the war in Ukraine and says that it will continue to deepen mutual trust and cooperation with Russia.
AP reported on the situation.
Wang Yi said during a video conference in Beijing that China would "deepen strategic mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation" with Russia.
The Chinese Foreign Minister also said that in the situation regarding the war in Ukraine, China adhered to the "fundamental principles of objectivity and impartiality".
“With regard to the Ukraine crisis, we have consistently upheld the fundamental principles of objectivity and impartiality, without favoring one side or the other, or adding fuel to the fire, still less seeking selfish gains from the situation,” Wang said.
He also accused the US of contributing to the deterioration of relations between the world's 2 largest economies. According to Wang Yi, Beijing "firmly rejected the United States’ erroneous China policy."
“The United States has stubbornly continued to see China as its primary competitor and engage in blatant blockade, suppression and provocation against China,” he said.
China has already accused America of bullying when it gave up its claims to a broad swath of the western Pacific. Relations between the countries were also frayed by Beijing's refusal to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and join other countries in imposing sanctions against Russia. However, Wang Yi noted that China will seek to bring relations with the U.S. back on course.
