Belarus plans to introduce death penalty for officials and military for "treason"
New law in Belarus plans to strengthen responsibility for "containment" and "demonstration of determined struggle and treason against the state".
The House of Representatives on National Security of Republic of Belarus reports.
Deputies in Belarus adopted in first reading draft law "On amending the codes on criminal responsibility", which propose "to provide for the possibility of applying exceptional measure in the form of death penalty for treason committed by person in public position or by person to whom the status of military serviceman applies."
In addition, deputies plan to impose liability for spreading false information that discredits Belarusian Armed Forces, other troops and military formations, paramilitary organizations of Republic of Belarus. According to the report, introduction of such a legal norm will be an effective preventive measure against the spread of deliberately false and untrue information about Belarusian army and other "power structures".
