We must overcome what Russia is doing, violence of this level should not exist – Macron
There are no conditions for dialogue now as Russia has chosen military action over negotiations. Europe cannot allow this level of violence to take place in the world
French President Emmanuel Macron has urged allies to intensify their military support for Ukraine during a speech at the Munich Security Conference, broadcast by Espreso TV.
"We must maintain our unity so that Russia can stop its ambitions once and for all, so that it does not behave like this. Unfortunately, no one can change the geographical position of Europe – Russia will be part of Europe. No one in this room can solve this dilemma. If we want to work for the prospect of lasting peace, we have to overcome what Russia brings with it. We must continue to fight," he said.
Macron added that France supports the unity of the whole of Europe and acted decisively. The French president also said that it was not the time to attempt dialogue with Russia as it stepped up hostilities in the east of Ukraine.
"We continue to negotiate wherever possible. Now is not the time for dialogue, Russia has chosen military action rather than negotiations. It is trying to reach a certain level of escalation, continues to attack civilian and critical infrastructure, and continues to commit crimes against civilians. The solution is very simple – Russia should not and cannot win this war. We cannot allow this level of violence to take place in the world. It will shake the stability of the whole world," the French President summarized.
