US State Department approves sale of NASAMS air defense systems to Ukraine for $285 million
The State Department made a decision to approve a possible foreign military sale to the government of Ukraine of the NASAMS air defense system and related equipment at an estimated cost of $285 million
This is stated in the official press release on the State Department's website.
It is noted that the Defense Security Cooperation Agency has already provided the necessary certification.
The document emphasizes the urgent need for Ukraine to enhance its capabilities in safeguarding against Russian missile strikes and aviation. The acquisition and effective deployment of this equipment will bolster Ukraine's ability to protect its citizens and critical national infrastructure.
However, it is clarified that the proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the primary military balance in the region.
Raytheon Missiles and Defense, based in Tucson, Arizona, will serve as the prime contractor for this order.
