Ukrainian Air Force explains why air defenses do not shoot down Russian planes over Belarus
Russian planes can only be shot down in Belarusian skies if they enter the zone that Ukrainian air defenses have identified as the damage zone.
Yuriy Ignat, the spokesman of the Air Force Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, stated this at the briefing.
"Unfortunately, we cannot destroy it (Russian aircraft, - Ed.) on the territory of Belarus. It is too far for us to reach. Russian aviation operates around Ukraine, starting from Belarus and ending with Zmiinyi island. They are located between Zmiinyi and Sevastopol constantly, 24/7, in constant patrol mode," he said.
"We can destroy them (planes. - Ed.) only when they enter the damage zone of our anti-aircraft defense. Today, the means we have are the S-300. The range of damage of this complex is up to 70 km. It is clear that these complexes are on the territory of Ukraine, but not on the border itself," the spokesman added.
According to Yuriy Ignat, the Russians transfer planes from one bridgehead to another, using all the airfields of Belarus without exception.
