Ukraine develops compact EW to shield armored vehicles from kamikaze drones
Protecting armored vehicles from kamikaze drones like the Lancet has become a pressing concern. While infantry can use anti-drone guns, tank crews need a dedicated EW solution
Defense Express writes about it.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have adopted a method to counter drones by disrupting their control channels through Electronic Warfare (EW) devices.
Portable "anti-drone guns" are used, but they require visual tracking of the drone for effective deployment. For armored vehicles, especially those under attack, targeted suppression of threats can be challenging.
To address this issue, Ukrainian company Piranha-Tech developed a compact EW complex called Piranha - Armored Vehicles Dome 360, specially designed to protect armored vehicles, the article notes.
The complex features a practical and compact design. Once installed on armored vehicles, all equipment is housed within an armored case, with only compact antennas visible on top. The EW complex can effectively suppress control channels and satellite navigation systems, including GPS, Baidow, Galileo, and others.
It is noted that Piranha - Armored Vehicles Dome 360 can interfere not only with standard drone control frequencies but also with the Lancet's specialized range of control frequencies. Operating at a power of 150-250 W, it creates a protective field spanning 700 meters in a 360-degree radius.
The article concludes that, “designed for real-field use, the Piranha EW complex eliminates the need for constant adjustments and individual crew monitoring,” which makes it a valuable asset for armored vehicle protection.
