UK ready to provide Ukraine with more tanks than promised - Wallace
Challenger 2 battle tanks may start arriving in Ukraine in the spring, and additional armored vehicles will depend on the level of threat and defence needs
This was stated by British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace in an interview with Reuters, Radio Liberty reports.
"Britain may offer Ukraine more tanks in addition to the 14 already promised, but it will depend on the country's defence needs," Wallace said.
"It's important to make sure that we can support them (Ukraine's needs - ed.) through this year. With Russia using the meat grinder tactic of its own, where the Russian army doesn't care about its own people, we have to make sure that is not able to be successful," Wallace said.
The British defence minister acknowledged that money is needed for all of this, but did not provide details of the ongoing negotiations to raise additional funds for this month's budget.
The minister visited a training ground in the southwest of England where Ukrainian soldiers are learning to drive tanks in combat. In a statement, the UK Ministry of Defence said that the training is "moving quickly" and will take several weeks.
"The Ukrainians will continue to fight, and Britain, along with our allies, will not waver. We will continue to provide the capabilities needed to support Ukraine for as long as it takes," Wallace emphasized.
