UK Defense Ministry confirms supply of Brimstone 2 missiles to Ukraine
The UK’s Defense Ministry has published a short video showing the transfer of Brimstone 2 laser-guided missiles to Ukraine.
British MoD shared the video on Twitter.
“As part of its aid package, the UK has provided Brimstone 2 missiles, a precision-guided missile, to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This aid has played a crucial role in stalling Russian advancements.” the tweet reads.
According to the Ukrainian Military portal, the first generation Brimstone rocket is 1.8 m long and 180 mm in diameter. The missile, which weighs roughly 50 kg, carries a 6.3 kilogram multifunctional tandem warhead that can penetrate dynamic armor.
The guidance system utilizes a millimeter wave radar and a semi-active laser.The first-generation missile has a maximum range of 20 kilometers.
The Brimstone 2 missile system was improved in 2010 as part of the SPEAR program. The missile's range was expanded by up to 60 kilometers due to an improved homing head, modular design, improved airframe, and updated software.
